    Dr. Cody Locke is Managing Consultant with CAI. He manages the NASA-supported SPACE RACE and the NIH-supported Nanotechnology Startup Challenge in Cancer. Prior to working with CAI, Cody used genetics, microscopy, and electrophysiology to investigate how the brain maintains stability. Cody was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he completed a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and was active in the Entrepreneurship Center. As a Howard Hughes Medical Institute-supported undergraduate researcher at the University of Alabama, Cody established C. elegans as an animal model of epilepsy and launched the world’s foremost epilepsy genetics database, CarpeDB. Cody is a proud father and husband, who is passionate about applying scientific discoveries and entrepreneurial spirit to advance human health and understanding.

    Rosemarie Truman is the founder and CEO of the Center for Advancing Innovation whose mission is to identify breakthrough inventions and maximize their commercial potential. With over 25 years of experience, Rosemarie's specialty is growth and venture investment strategy, having led growth strategies for 50 of the global Fortune 100 companies in over 15 countries. For her clients and CAI, Rosemarie has architected investment strategies and transformations that have served as the platform for more than 190 new products and an unprecedented $25 billion in profits. Rosemarie is also Director of the DC-metro chapter of the Founder Institute, the world's largest accelerator program. In partnership with the National Institutes of Health, MedImmune and several other partners, Rosemarie conceived of and launched five "first of a kind" challenges to crowdsource startup teams to advance federally-funded inventions, resulting in 80 new startups. The first challenge was the largest in the world in CAI's first year running. CAI earned numerous awards and recognition from Health and Human Services, the White House, and the Federal Laboratory Consortium and several others such as the Washington Post, Wired, CBS, the Huffington Post, etc. Prior to launching her own firm, Rosemarie spearheaded IBM's Innovation strategy practice globally when she was awarded IBM's most laudable honor, the Golden Circle Award; she also has served in leadership in several other prestigious strategy organizations. Rosemarie also served as the VP and head of global strategy at Marsh & McLennan, the world's largest brokerage firm. Rosemarie started her career at Goldman Sachs. Her core competencies are in strategy consulting, investment banking and entrepreneurship.

    Jonathan is the Managing Director of the Center for Advancing Innovation. With over 7 years of strategy consulting experience, he has expertise in all areas of business transformation, portfolio analysis, market strategy, financial modeling, and innovation. He manages the planning and operations of CAI's startup challenges. He has been instrumental in the implementation of four startup challenges to date and has trained thousands of entrepreneurs in business-related topics. He has helped launch 58 companies, which he continues to advise and mentor. Jonathan has worked on a variety of portfolio strategy, operational optimization and business strategy engagements. When a problem is labeled "impossible," he's charged with solving it, which he has done without exception. He has worked with the following client efforts: Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, MedImmune, and several others. For example, he led an engagement to assess one large pharma's suite of clinical trials, identified ways to make them more successful, and generated financial models to illustrate the value of pursuing recommendations. Jonathan has also been the lead due diligence consultant on a portfolio strategy engagement for an infectious disease drug, device, and diagnostic company where we identified a large exit and bootstrap strategy to mitigate risk for potential investors.

    Dr. Nick Hammond is the Associate Vice President at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) and works to connect the innovative capacity of the University with Maryland's innovation ecosystem. Dr. Hammond also serves as the Assistant Director of the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET). During his tenure at IMET, Dr. Hammond developed several new programs including Baltimore Entrepreneur Office Hours, the Ratcliffe Environmental Entrepreneur Fellowship (REEF) Program, the Harbor Launch business incubator, and the IMET Entrepreneur in Residence Program. Prior to IMET Dr. Hammond co-founded Ablitech, Inc. in 2006 as its first CEO, and served as its Chief Technology Officer until becoming the Chief Science Officer in 2011. Dr. Hammond was instrumental in raising more than $2.8M from federal grants and contracts, foundations, angel investment, and state agencies for the development of Ablitech’s Versadel delivery technology for gene silencing. Hammond’s past research has involved drug design and development, drug delivery, polymers, gene silencing, basic cell research, and small animal models. Nick Hammond has authored a number of scientific papers, presentations, and patents and has been honored as a National Science Foundation (NSF) IGERT Fellow, an American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) Endowed Fellow, and a Trent Lott National Center of Excellence for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Fellow. Hammond holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and a BS in Biology and Chemistry.
